Amorgos island
The Greek island of Amorgos is one of the most unique and delightful within the Aegean. It is located in the Southern Cyclades near to the nearby islands of Ios and Naxos.

Amorgos is one that has continued to be virtually untouched through the years, and is a location in which you can enjoy natural splendor and charm. It has some wonderful beaches and the traditional architecture of the white houses against a backdrop of blue sea and sky make it a fantastic place for a relaxing and peaceful holiday in Greece. The beauty of Amorgos is exactly what inspired Luc Besson the well-known filmmaker to film scenes of his motion picture "The Big Blue" at the beautiful beach of Agia Anna.

The most famous landmark of Amorgos is the monastery of Hozoviotissa, which is situated on the slopes of
rock looking out over the blue waters and where you can enjoy some amazing views. The monastery goes back to the 11th century and is a short distance from the capital town of Chora.

Chora is an extremely beautiful village and a perfect spot to walk around and enjoy the genuine setting. There are numerous other villages in Amorgos that are really worth going to if you have the chance. There are also different places of interest on the island like the ancient Monan settlement, the traditional Cycladic windmills plus much more.

The island also has some excellent beaches that are ideal for a refreshing swim during the hot summer months. Amorgos is a perfect destination for those who need to get away from it all and savor some peace and enjoyment.

Visitors to the area will find a great choice of accommodation including studios and apartments that are perfect for families visiting Amorgos. You will find the majority of the accommodation in the capital town of Chora and also the two ports of Katapola and Aegialis, each of which are wonderful places to stay when going to the island.

If you wish to sample a genuine Greek island holiday then Amorgos is the perfect place for you and has much to offer.
